Matt Berlin is a postdoctoral associate at the MIT Media Lab, working with Professor Cynthia Breazeal and the Personal Robots group. Matt has helped to design a wide range of interactive robots and animated characters, including trainable animated dogs, a virtual pack of wolves, and, more recently, the robots Leonardo and Nexi. Matt's research focuses on using robotic tools and techniques to investigate natural human teaching and learning behavior, and on applying the insights from this work to the design of machines that can learn more effectively from real human teachers.
Matt received his A.B. in Computer Science from Harvard College in 2001, his S.M. in Media Arts and Sciences from MIT in 2003, and his Ph.D. from MIT in February 2008.
